Making Room for the Unexpected God

Luke 1:7, “And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.”Matthew 8;20,

“The Son of man has nowhere to lay his head.”John 19:30,

“When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” John 19:30

Jesus came, despite us, from the very beginning. As He still does.  

While imperfect people were bustling about their day, worried and wondering how they were going to survive, Life, Himself came knocking at their door and, like us, they were too preoccupied with survival to receive Him. 

I wonder if Joseph and Mary’s hearts both broke and burst with wonder as each door they knocked upon was met with rejection. “Is this really God, why doesn’t anyone make room for Him?” 

Perhaps, early on they discovered that God, the one they had imagined Him to be, may just be a little different than what they expected.

Oh, how hard it is for us to open the door to our hearts to THAT God, the One we’re not expecting! 

This One, who would pour Himself out for us, never truly, “having a place to lay his head”, for He was too busy preparing THAT place for us, within Himself. 

And He did. 

Life Himself finally poured out that Life for us, and once finished, at last, bowed His head, and rested.

Despite us, He comes, He knocks, He seeks.

He sees us preoccupied with survival as He is reaching out saying, “here, here is My Life, take it.”  

Oh, in that Life, we will find SO much more than we were ever expecting!
